Why
do you need to know how the water damage occurred?
By looking at
the type of water damage we can make predications about the work
we have to do.
One category is
the vertical incident e.g. an overhead incident where water has
come down from one floor to the one below. Vertical incidents
require very careful investigation as water often flows
un-predictably sideways deeper into your building.
Other
categories include horizontal (floor level) water ingress.
Why
are you interested in the source of the water?
Water from
storm flooding or sewage backups is defined as backwater. This
water may be contaminated with harmful micro-organisms and you
should be very careful until we have decontaminated the
property.
If any members
of your family or other building occupants are unwell, have a
weak immune system or are very young or very old then they
should be kept away until cleaning work is complete . You must
be very careful when preparing food and observe strict hygiene.
What
is trapped moisture?
This is
moisture that is trapped in building voids, for example behind
plasterboard, lath & plaster or ceiling floor voids.
If left
unattended this can result in serious damage to the building
fabric, mould growth and/or illness in some people. We can deal
with this for you with specialist drying installation.
Why
is mould a problem?
Mould spores
are everywhere. They grow if moisture levels increase above a
certain range.
Mould grows
easily on clothing etc, plasterboard, wood and some other
materials.
Mould grows
well in dark places so can grow undetected.
Mould spores
can be a risk to health.
